The 183-Year-Old

Richard PratherPart One
There was a lady who lived down the street and I used to see her at the dog park now and then as I ran by. One day her dog got loose just as I ran around the corner. I called out to her dog, “Lika!” She ran right to me as if we had been best friends for years. Relieved, I picked her up with a smile and walked her back to the dog park. Ms. Jaya was already making her way to me slowly, thanking me continuously. “I was happy to be in the right area at the right time,” I explained. The Ability to do things Different

David SpearsPeople may not be aware that folks with a disability can perform most projects just as well as anyone else can, only differently. For example, walking is not the method I use for mobility, but I still get to where I need to go just the same by using a wheelchair. I’ve watched movies that show elevator operators who pushed the buttons for the floors we needed to get to. Why did we need an elevator operator in the first place? There was a time when you could call a company and speak to a live person who would route the phone calls – I miss that! Continue reading ‘Are You Part of the Skilled Workforce?’

Web Accessibility

David SpearsThe Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 requires most people to begin considering accessibility to all people regardless of ability, not to mention equal footing in the public arena including the employment sector. So what does web accessibility have to do with any of that, and furthermore, what is web accessibility? Continue reading ‘Web Accessibility’
