We all become a little anxious when an employer schedules us for an interview. A little bit of anxiety can be good, but it can also be uncomfortable.
Let’s switch roles for a moment. You are employed, your Office Manager informs you that the HR Representative will be out for a period of time and he/she would like YOU to conduct an interview this week! I feel anxious just writing about it. But relax. I have a few suggestions that will help you conduct an effective interview without having to frantically search Google for help.

We are currently operating in an employer’s market. There are more well-qualified applicants applying for positions than there are great paying positions available. As a human resources professional, that means you have your pick of who you want to choose to fill any given position! On the down side, that means you may have to sort through a lot of applications and resumes in order to find candidates that fill your needs.

Based on these figures, employers should expect to get a good number of candidates applying for any opening they post. As an employer, you might be wondering why you are either not getting enough candidates or not getting the right candidates.

At this time each year, we celebrate the gift our country was given in the leadership skills of tow men when we needed them most — George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Both presidents arrived on the scene when our country was divided and in peril of disintegration.
