There are many faces of homelessness. Homelessness knows no age, and it affects everyone. Workforce Solutions works with the Coalition for the Homeless to support people experiencing homelessness to find employment and receive housing assistance. According to The Coalition for the Homeless, an economic crisis is a leading cause of homelessness. In this series, we will provide resources for those who experience homelessness in different stages of life.

Benefits of Hiring a Person Experiencing Homelessness

Houston’s homeless population is much more than a statistic or number. They have a name, a voice, feelings, and dignity. They are a part of our community, and I solemnly believe it is our obligation to assist people experiencing homelessness. Among all the causes of homelessness, unemployment contributes to a major 35% portion of it. Therefore, I challenge Houston businesses to expand your understanding of the homeless situation in our community. You are the key to helping our community grow. What is Chronic Homelessness?

On a given night in Houston, Harris and Fort Bend Counties, more than 5,000 people spend the night in a shelter or somewhere on the street, in a park or in places not meant for human habitation, according to a recent report. While several thousand more individuals and families throughout the year find themselves temporarily homeless – living in motels, doubling up with family members or couch surfing at friends’ homes.
