This October marks the 70th Anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The purpose of this initiative is to educate the public and employers about disability employment issues and to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities. This year’s theme ‘My disability is one part of who I am’ shares the important message that people with disabilities are just people who can bring another perspective to the table.

An Interview with a Disability
In the past, prior to the American with Disabilities Act of 1990, I had an interview with a company that had no access for wheelchairs into the building. I called the Office Manager, with whom I was to interview, using a payphone and explained the situation. The Office Manager understood and agreed to conduct the interview on the front steps of the building; which begs the question: how do we handle interviewing a person who has a disability?
