Are you an Opportunist or a Procrastinator?

FriedaThe last time you stopped by I told you about the evening I went to put out the trash and discovered the distinct image of a bird, (or dragon) that had formed in the evening clouds. I quickly took a picture of this image before it completely disappeared.

It’s all about perspective. My neighbor saw a dragon zeroing in for a better look at a chance to grab an evening snack. I saw something else, an “Angry Bird” that did everything in its power to get me to look up and take notice! I saw this as an opportunity to take a picture of something that I may never see again. It took a second, but I didn’t hesitate to take advantage of this situation, once it presented itself, (electrical wires and all).

Are you an Opportunist or a Procrastinator when it comes to job search opportunities? Do you take advantage of every employment opportunity that comes your way and go for it; or do you procrastinate until the opportunity simply disappears making you wonder if it had ever really been there at all? Job seekers often tell me that they had the perfect lead or opportunity from a friend along with great suggestions on how to apply for jobs. And, like me maybe at first, they didn’t see this as an opportunity. The misconception is that it can wait and if it’s meant to be for me then it will be there for me – later. My suggestion is to look up and get out from behind your regular way of approaching job search. Investigate every job lead and networking opportunity as they occur with no regrets later.

If you are currently seeking employment, you might be hesitant because you know that your resume isn’t ready to act on a “hot” job lead or referral. You may opt to let precious opportunities fly by. This is understandable, especially if you haven’t looked for work in a while. However, Workforce Solutions offers so much more than just resume training. We offer four separate (and free) seminar options including:

  1. A Targeted Plan (Skills Identification),
  2. Job Readiness toolkit (Resume and Application Development),
  3. Sharpening Your Interviewing Skills (Frequently asked interview questions and Dress), and
  4. Closing The Deal, (Networking, Social Media and getting the job offer while interviewing).

With four Modules to choose from why not choose to attend them all? Visit our Workforce Solutions web page to lock down exact times, dates and locations. The proactive job seeker will participate in Workforce Solution’s Job Search Training Seminars before it becomes an emergency.

Become an Opportunist. Stop waiting for that “just the right moment.” Let Workforce Solutions assist you with your job search strategies? Grab your resume, (and your camera if you like), and take your shot! Waiting for that “just right moment” is a form of procrastination. Your just right moment may very well be…right now!
