Artificial Intelligence for Hiring

Image of Tiffany ArmingtonCongratulations, you’ve found the perfect job that matches your skillset. You’ve submitted your resume to the company in hopes of receiving a call for an interview. Instead, you get an automated email stating:

“Thank you for expressing interest in this position. We have received your resume and are currently reviewing your credentials. Should we determine that your background and experience meet our hiring needs, we will contact you. If you are not selected for current employment opportunities, we will keep your resume on file and contact you when a better match becomes available.”

What just happened? Your resume did not match the job description according to artificial intelligence screening.

What in the world is artificial intelligence? Artificial intelligence, simply put, is computer systems performing simple tasks automatically.

" "Just like many of us today, Human Resources (HR) departments have been enjoying the advance in modern technology to help with many tasks they are responsible for. Now, it has stepped up a notch with the opportunity to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for hiring new employees.

HR Recruiting Challenges
One of the most time-consuming jobs within the HR department is the hiring process. It includes having to review resumes before reaching the interviewing stage. When considering this, the HR staff has the task of deciding who the right person is for the open position. With resumes being submitted via the internet, the volume being received has grown substantially. However, the recruiting staff remains the same. As an alternative, the hiring process can be farmed out to a third party.

The Application of AI
Software is being created based on AI that allows problem-solving tasks to be included in the recruiting process. It can automate the screening process. On average, about 75% of the resumes received for a job position are not suitable. Statistics show that with using traditional screening methods, it takes a recruiter on average 23 hours to go through the hiring process of the right candidate.

Automation
With the use of AI, recruiters will be able to automate the screening process and set up interviews with qualifying candidates.

Quality
AI will improve the ability to match the right candidate with the perfect position. It will be able to do this with the analysis of data collected among all the applicants.

The Benefits
There are undoubtedly a lot of benefits that come with the use of AI for hiring. Here a few below:

  • Speed
  • Cost-Effective
  • Less Turnover
  • Job Satisfaction

Job Seeker Resume Match
Now, for job seekers, there is a way to ensure your resume passes the artificial intelligence test. Create a resume that includes skills that are relevant to the job description. Add keywords found in the job description. Lastly, scan your resume through a matching site. My favorite is Jobs Can. This website allows us to perfectly match our skills to ultimately receive an invite to the interview.

An effective complement to getting your resume ready is to attend a workshop offered at one of our Workforce Solutions career offices. Good Luck with your job search.
