It’s Raining Oil and Jobs

Need a job? Then head north ——– > way north to Williston, North Dakota that is. North Dakota has struck black gold and the job boom shows no signs of stopping.

North Dakota’s oil business has turned Williston, the largest city in the northwest region of the state (14,000 people), into “Grand Central Station” for job seekers. Williston is situated near the Montana and Canadian borders on the Bakken formation, an oil field that some say will produce the greatest oil boom in North America since the 1960s.

According to North Dakota Oil Job. com, the area may produce up to 100 billion barrels of oil. Right now, companies need production engineers, drilling & production support, oil haulers and various other oil and gas workers.

Jobs are not only found in oil but also in land development and housing. Do you remember the days when Houston was littered with builders that were actually building?  Guess what? Williston and the nearby town of Tioga are the new “Mecca” for developers. Because of the influx of people streaming into the region in search of jobs, housing has been hard to find.

Hotels are fully booked and a cheap house rents for $1,600 a month. This has opened the door for developers, construction workers, electricians, carpenters and more. The wages are more than fair. What is fair? How does $80,000 a year for driving an eighteen wheeler around, or a six-figure paycheck for other jobs? Do they have OT? You’d better believe it! Just read this recent New York Times article –“North Dakota Oil Boom Creates Camps of Men”

If you are looking for a job in the oil industry, or in a job that is the by-product of an oil boom, I suggest you pack your bags and head to North Dakota. And if you are telling yourself, yes, but the weather is harsh and my fingers will get frosty, stop. Start thinking about lining your pockets with American green and how much you will enjoy laughing all the way to the bank!
